(Thu, 22 Oct 2020) This report estimates stochastic frontier energy demand functions with non-public, plant-level data from the U.S. Census Bureau to measure the energy efficiency gap and energy price elasticities in the food processing industry. Estimates of the energy efficiency gap are smaller but empirically more reasonable when using this new estimation methodology. Own-prices are generally inelastic with little evidence of fuel or electricity substitution.
(Wed, 14 Oct 2020) EIAâs new <em>Handbook of Energy Modeling Methods</em> explains, in plain language, the processes EIA uses to produce long- and short-term projections of key energy market statistics. Today EIA released <em>Handbook</em> documentation for most of the World Energy Projection System (WEPS), along with some parts of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) and the Short-Term Energy Forecasting System (STIFS). Additional <em>Handbook</em> sections will become available in the coming months.

The country has moved away from traditional biomass and waste over the past several years as the availability of electricity connections spread for the residential and commercial sectors.

Rapidly increasing energy demand, especially for petroleum and other liquids and natural gas, has made China influential in world energy markets. Although a majority of Chinaâs energy is from coal, the country is diversifying its energy portfolio to curtail heavy air pollution and use more cleaner burning fuels.
