ISO-New England issues Forward Capacity Auction results starting in June 2027

(Wed, 28 Feb 2024) ISO-New England (ISONE) earlier this month issued the results of its Forward Capacity Auction (FCA) #18, covering commitment period June 2027 to May 2028. Under FCA #18 ISONE secured resource commitments of 31,556 megawatts (MW), or nearly the same as the 31,370 MW cleared in FCA #17. About 2,000 MW less capacity cleared the past two auctions compared with the 33,956 MW cleared in FCA #14, which is the current commitment period of June 2023 to May 2024.

Iraq Country Analysis Brief

(Wed, 14 Feb 2024) Iraq holds some of the world’s largest oil reserves and is the second-largest producer in OPEC after Saudi Arabia. Although Iraq intends to increase its crude oil production capacity, Iraq’s export infrastructure is constrained and midstream projects are often delayed because of insufficient investment and bureaucratic hurdles. In addition, Turkey stopped crude oil flows from northern Iraq through the Iraq-to-Turkey pipeline in March 2023, which has severely limited northern Iraq’s crude oil exports.

Natural Gas Monthly

(Wed, 31 Jan 2024) In November 2023, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the month for the 31st consecutive month. Preliminary dry natural gas production in November 2023 was 3,178 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 105.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 3.6% (3.7 Bcf/d) higher in November 2023 than in November 2022 (102.2 Bcf/d) and the highest for any month since 1973, when we began tracking dry natural gas production. Gross withdrawals also increased from November 2022.

2018 Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey Consumption Results

(Wed, 31 Mar 2021) <p>U.S. manufacturing is becoming more fuel-efficient and less labor-intensive since 1998. Manufacturing gross output grew by 12% while fuel consumption decreased by 16%. Labor productivity—measured as gross output divided by the number of employees—also improved by 62% in the same period. In addition, fuel intensity—measured as fuel consumption divided by gross output—decreased by 25% from 3.2 quadrillion British thermal units per billion dollars in 1998 to 2.4 quadrillion British thermal units per billion dollars in 2018.</p>

ISO-New England secures supply in 15th Forward Capacity Market auction

(Thu, 11 Mar 2021) In February 2021, the Independent System Operator for New England (ISO-NE) conducted its 15th annual Forward Capacity Market (FCM 15) auction. ISO-NE holds these annual auctions to ensure that the New England power system will have sufficient electricity resources to meet future electricity demand. In this auction, ISO-NE secured electric capacity to cover the period of June 1, 2024, through May 31, 2025.
