(Fri, 30 Oct 2015) ?In August, for the second consecutive month, dry natural gas production was the highest for any month since EIA began reporting dry natural gas production data. Dry natural gas production has increased year-over-year each month since March 2013; dry production has not decreased year-over-year for any month since February 2013. Preliminary dry natural gas production for August 2015 was 2,373 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 76.5 Bcf/day. This level was a 4.97 Bcf/day (6.9%) increase from production of 71.6 Bcf/day in August 2014.
?August's dry natural gas consumption level was the highest on record for the month. Preliminary total natural gas consumption for August 2015 was 2,072 Bcf, or 66.8 Bcf/day. This level was an increase of 6.8% from 1,940 Bcf in August 2014, or 4.3 Bcf/day.
?Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in August changed only slightly in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being electric power deliveries, which again increased significantly year to year. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in August were as follows:
Residential deliveries were 104 Bcf, or 3.35 Bcf/day, down 1.0% from 3.39 Bcf/day in August 2014. Residential consumption of natural gas was the lowest level for any month on record, dating back to 1973.
Commercial deliveries were 138 Bcf, or 4.5 Bcf/day, a 0.7% increase from 4.4 Bcf/day in August 2014.
Industrial deliveries were 598 Bcf, or 19.3 Bcf/day, down 1.5% from 19.6 Bcf/day in August 2014.
Electric power deliveries were 1,026 Bcf, or 33.1 Bcf/day, a 14.1% rise from 29.0 Bcf/day in August 2014. August's electric power consumption was the highest level for the month on record, dating back to 2001.
